Azerbaijan's ANAMA unveils hectares of liberated land cleared of landmines since November, 2020
Since the end of the Second Karabakh War (November 2020), 118 thousand hectares of the territory of the liberated districts have been cleared of mines and explosive munitions, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) Vugar Suleymanov told reporters.
More than 18,000 anti-personnel mines, more than 31,000 anti-tank mines and more than 60,000 unexploded ordnance were found and neutralised during demining in Karabakh, Report quotes him as saying.
"Unfortunately, it was not without casualties. Since 2020 to this day, 65 people have died as a result of mine explosions, and a total of 341 people have suffered from them," Suleymanov added.
Armenia planted land mines in Azerbaijani territory, not only during the 30-year-long occupation but also just days before abandoning the Azerbaijani lands.
Civilians and military personnel are frequently maimed or killed as a result of mine explosions in Azerbaijan's liberated regions.
Armenia deliberately and constantly planted mines on Azerbaijani territories, in violation of the 1949 Geneva Convention, thereby being a major threat to regional peace, security, and cooperation.
