Azerbaijan’s climate, peace initiatives hailed at Africa Climate Week PHOTO
Azerbaijan’s efforts to link climate action with peacebuilding received strong international recognition during Africa Climate Week, held in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.
Speaking at the Climate Vulnerable Forum, Ethiopian Minister of Planning and Development Fitsum Assefa thanked Azerbaijan for its sustained support to African nations facing the combined challenges of climate change and conflict. She highlighted the significance of the Baku Call on Climate Action for Peace, Relief, and Recovery, adopted during COP29 in Baku, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative to the African Union Parfait Onanga-Anyanga and Italy’s Special Envoy for Climate Change Francesco Corvaro also underlined the growing role of the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub. They described it as one of the most important emerging platforms for international cooperation against climate change.
Officials from Chad, Iraq, and Guinea-Bissau joined in commending the COP29 presidency’s expertise and support.
Chairing the session, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador-at-Large Elshad Iskandarov welcomed the recognition, noting that the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub is backed by more than 30 countries, several multilateral organizations, and over 300 international NGOs.
Participants agreed that the results of these initiatives will be presented at COP30.
