Azerbaijan's female wrestler secures bronze medal in Zagreb Open tournament
Azerbaijani athlete Zahra Karimzada has won a bronze medal at the first wrestling tournament of 2026, which is being held in the Croatian capital.
Azerbaijan is represented at the Zagreb Open of the UWW by its women’s national wrestling team, as local media reports.
On the fourth and final day of the tournament, three members of the national squad competed for a spot on the podium.
While Karimzada was defeated in the quarterfinal in the 72 kg weight category by Türkiye's Buse Tosun with a score of 0–2, she secured a bronze medal by winning Japan’s Mahiro Yoshitake by 4–1.
The other members of Azerbaijan's team competing in the Zagreb Open were Nargiz Samadova (53 kg) and Zhala Aliyeva (57 kg), yet did not ascend onto the podium.
