Azerbaijan delivers vital aid to Ukraine in new humanitarian shipment
Azerbaijan has sent another batch of humanitarian aid to Ukraine, consisting of electrical equipment.
The aid was dispatched from the Sumgait Technologies Park and includes electric cables and transformers intended for restoring power supply to the areas affected by the war, Caliber.Az reports.
The Azerbaijani Energy Ministry allocated $1 million for humanitarian assistance to Ukraine upon President Aliyev’s order. The total amount of aid provided by Azerbaijan to Ukraine has exceeded $40 million.
While commenting on the issue of humanitarian aid, Counsellor, Head of Economic Section at the Ukrainian embassy in Azerbaijan Oleh Klynchenko said that Ukraine expresses profound gratitude to Azerbaijan and President Ilham Aliyev for the latest delivery of humanitarian aid.
“This crucial support plays a key role in sustaining the Ukrainian people and the nation's economy,” Klynchenko told journalists in Sumgayit, the site from which the latest aid shipment was sent.
"This aid is not just saving Ukrainian lives, it is sustaining our people and ensuring the continued functioning of our economy. Just recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met at the Davos forum, and that meeting marked another significant step in strengthening our strategic partnership, proving that our ties are built on a strong foundation," he said.
He highlighted the significance of the new aid shipment, which coincided with the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
"We have shared objectives in fostering regional stability, peace, and trade cooperation. It is encouraging to witness how our economic trade is becoming more sophisticated and interdependent, benefiting both Azerbaijan and Ukraine," he added.
Meanwhile, Head of the Electrical and Thermal Energy Department at the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry Alasgar Hasanov also noted that Azerbaijan delivered several shipments of humanitarian aid, with the total amount now surpassing $40 million, in response to the current situation in Ukraine.
“Azerbaijan sent a variety of electrical equipment, wires, and cables at Ukraine's request to address the damage inflicted on Ukraine's energy sector by the war and to build a resilient energy infrastructure,” Hasanov told journalists.
"Among the shipments are around 70 generators and millions of metres of wire and cable. Following President Aliyev's directive, $1 million [converted into manats] was allocated to purchase and deliver electrical equipment manufactured in Azerbaijan," he added.
