Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka aim to expand cooperation in multiple fields
On the sidelines of the 82nd session of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in Bangkok, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Upali Pannilage, focusing on expanding cooperation between the two countries.
The ministers praised the strengthening of relations based on mutual respect and shared values and discussed opportunities to further expand cooperation across various sectors, Caliber.Az reports, citing a post by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry on X.
Sri Lanka expressed deep appreciation for the humanitarian assistance provided by Azerbaijan during recent natural disasters.
Special attention was given to strengthening economic ties and increasing trade turnover. Tourism potential was also highlighted as a key driver for expanding cooperation. In addition, the meeting addressed scholarship opportunities for Sri Lankan citizens.
The sides stated that the use of a foreign ministers’ consultation mechanism, as well as coordination within multilateral platforms, would provide additional momentum to the development of bilateral relations.
