Azerbaijan transfers presidency of GUAM Parliamentary Assembly to Georgia
Azerbaijan has officially handed over the presidency to Georgia for a one-year term in a recent online session of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly.
The session, chaired by Azerbaijan, concluded with the adoption of the final document, the Communiqué. This transition marks a significant shift in the leadership of the assembly, with Georgia set to assume the role for the next year, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
GUAM, an acronym for Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova, is a regional organisation established in 1997 to promote economic, political, and security cooperation among its member states. Initially formed as a response to regional challenges and to enhance mutual interests, GUAM focuses on issues such as regional stability, democratic development, energy security, and trade. The organisation has also served as a platform for its members to strengthen ties with other international organisations, including the European Union and NATO.
Over the years, GUAM has evolved to address regional security concerns, promote democratic values, and facilitate cooperation in areas such as transportation and energy. Despite facing geopolitical challenges, GUAM continues to foster collaboration among its members and advance shared goals for regional prosperity and stability.
