Azerbaijani gymnasts shine in AGF international tournament at home JUNIOR, SENIOR ATHLETES COLLECT DOZENS OF MEDALS FOR HOST TEAM / PHOTO
An international artistic gymnastics tournament concluded this weekend in Baku, with Azerbaijan's athletes ascending onto the podium in various categories.
The AGF Trophy International Tournament 2026 took place from May 14 to 16 at the National Gymnastics Arena in the capital, as Caliber.Az reports citing local sport outlets.
Around 50 athletes from five countries competed for top honours in both the men’s and women’s events. Gymnasts took part in two age categories, junior and senior.
May 14
The first day of competition determined the winners in the team and all-around events among juniors, with both Azerbaijan’s men’s and women’s junior teams winning bronze medals in the team competition.
In addition, Leyla Mammadzade claimed a bronze medal in the girls’ individual all-around.
May 15
On the second day of the tournament, senior athletes competed in the all-around events.
Rasul Ahmadzade delivered an outstanding performance to win the gold medal, while Khadija Abbaszade added another bronze medal to Azerbaijan’s tally.
May 16
The final day featured intense rounds of finals on various apparatus, where gymnasts competed for medals in individual disciplines.
In the junior category, Ilham Salayev won bronze in the floor exercise, while Leyla Mammadzade added another three more bronze medals to her collection across the vault, uneven bars and floor exercise.
Among the senior competitors, Rasul Ahmadzade captured gold medals in the pommel horse and horizontal bar events, while Daniz Aliyeva won gold in the vault and silver on the uneven bars. Nikita Simonov took gold in the rings event, Nazanin Teymurova finished first on the balance beam, and Aydin Alizade earned bronze on the parallel bars.
As a result, Azerbaijani gymnasts finished the home tournament with an impressive performance by winning a total of 16 medals.
