Azerbaijani judoka wins bronze at European Cup
The Open Cup of Europe in judo with the participation of the Azerbaijani team has started in Rome (Italy).
On March 11, on the first day of the tournament, six of our athletes took to the tatami: Kanan Ismayilov (60 kg) won bronze, azerisport.com reports.
Rashad Elkiev (60 kg) defeated Raul Diaz (Spain), Roe Rosan (Israel) and Mekan Ramazanov (Turkmenistan), reaching the quarterfinals. At this stage, he lost to Samuel Weisenegger (Switzerland), and in the repechage block he lost to Maxim Merlin (France).
Kanan Ismayilov (60 kg) defeated Asier Murillo (Spain) and Aibek Omirov (Turkmenistan), also making it to the quarterfinals. Here he lost to Lior Rafailov (Israel), moving to the repechage block, where he defeated Dylan Munro (Great Britain). In the fight for bronze, Ismayilov won against Emil Jaring (Netherlands).
Ismayil Ibrahimov (66 kg) lost to Lionel Schwander (Switzerland).
Tofig Aliyev (66 kg) defeated Robbe Demets (Belgium), and then lost to Luca Caginano (Italy).
Ibrahim Aliyev (73 kg) passed Enzo Gibelli (France), Sabu Danelia (Portugal), Daniel Pochop (Czech Republic) and Martin Hojak (Slovenia) to reach the semi-finals. Here he lost to Coen Heg (Netherlands), and lost to Lukas Richter (Austria) in the bronze medal match.
Telman Valiyev (73 kg) was defeated by Anthony Zigg (Germany).
