Azerbaijani major receives medal for exemplary service in South Sudan PHOTO

Major Mehman Garagozov, an Azerbaijani military observer serving in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), has been awarded a medal and a certificate of honor by the UNMISS Security Forces Commander, Lieutenant General Mohan Subramaniam.

The recognition highlights Garagozov's exemplary performance and unwavering commitment to his duties in the mission, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry.

The award also acknowledges Garagozov’s courage and bravery during a critical evacuation operation, where he played a key role in rescuing patrol members from a conflict zone.

Azerbaijan’s participation in UNMISS was formalized in November 2018 when the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) approved the dispatch of four Azerbaijani servicemen to South Sudan.
