Azerbaijani Parliament speaker kicks off working visit to Uzbekistan
A high-level Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, arrived in Uzbekistan for a working visit.
Upon arrival at Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport, Gafarova and her delegation were warmly welcomed by Sadyk Safayev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Huseyn Guliyev, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Uzbekistan, and other officials, Caliber.Az reports.
During her stay, Gafarova is set to participate in several significant events, including the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the 4th Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Parliamentary Network, and a coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.
As part of her visit, Speaker Gafarova will also deliver an address at the IPU Assembly. She is expected to engage in high-level discussions with parliamentary leaders from various member states, as well as heads of delegations, representatives from international organizations, and senior officials from Uzbekistan.
The 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from April 5 to April 9, 2025. During this prestigious event, all IPU statutory bodies will convene, including the Governing Council, the Standing Committees, the Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young MPs.
The General Debate of the Assembly will center on the theme Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice. This will serve as a platform for delegates to engage in deliberations, exchange perspectives, and catalyze parliamentary efforts to address this critical issue.
In addition, the Assembly will consider and adopt resolutions on several significant topics. One key resolution will address the emergency item, while another will focus on the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security’s subject, titled The Role of Parliaments in Advancing a Two-State Solution for Palestine. Another resolution will stem from the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, addressing Parliamentary Strategies to Mitigate the Long-Lasting Impact of Conflicts, Including Armed Conflicts, on Sustainable Development.
The Assembly will conclude with the adoption of a comprehensive outcome document encapsulating the overall theme of the General Debate, reflecting the collective resolve and vision of the participating parliamentarians.
