Azerbaijani police seize another batch of ammunition in Khankendi
In a continued effort to enhance security and stability, the Azerbaijani law enforcement authorities in Karabakh have undertaken comprehensive measures resulting in the discovery and confiscation of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition in the city of Khankendi.
Police officers seized 25 rifles, a machine gun, three pistols, a shotgun, and 11 hand grenades. Additionally, five walkie-talkies, 7,575 cartridges of various calibres, and 10 fuses intended for hand grenades were among the items confiscated during the operation, the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry told Caliber.Az reports.
This discovery underscores the ongoing efforts to rid the region of potentially dangerous armaments, contributing to the maintenance of peace and security in the area. Authorities remain vigilant in their commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and the continued stability of Karabakh.
On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan initiated a series of anti-terrorism measures with the aim of neutralizing Armenian military forces and infrastructure within the Karabakh region. This action was prompted by escalating attacks from Armenian forces on Azerbaijani positions, compounded by a tragic mine incident resulting in the loss of six Azerbaijani lives. Throughout the military campaign, ensuring the safety of civilians remained a primary concern for Azerbaijani forces, resulting in zero civilian casualties and minimal damage to essential infrastructure. Measures were taken to facilitate the safe evacuation of civilians and provide humanitarian assistance.
By September 20, Azerbaijani forces had successfully incapacitated Armenian artillery systems, radio-electronic warfare capabilities, military equipment, ammunition depots, strongholds, and shelters across the Karabakh region. Over 90 combat posts and strategic positions held by Armenian military formations were brought under Azerbaijani control during the anti-terrorist operation, with numerous military vehicles, weapons, and ammunition seized.
The anti-terrorism efforts concluded after Armenian military formations agreed to complete disarmament, surrendering their arms and withdrawing from their positions. Additionally, they were required to vacate Azerbaijani territory, with illegal Armenian armed groups instructed to disband.
Subsequent to these events, Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies have actively pursued Armenian military armouries. These ongoing operations have resulted in the discovery of numerous weapons, ammunition, and military equipment in Khankendi and surrounding areas.
