Azerbaijani presidential aide meets US lawmakers to discuss strategic partnership PHOTO
Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev held meetings with U.S. Representative Brian Mast, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Senator Steve Daines in Washington, D.C., Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Embassy.
During the meetings, both sides highlighted the strategic importance of the Washington Summit held on August 8 between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump, noting its positive impact on Azerbaijan–U.S. relations and regional peace. Hajiyev emphasised the importance of repealing Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act and extended an invitation to the U.S. lawmakers to visit Azerbaijan.

On August 8, a trilateral summit of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the United States was held in Washington. Under the mediation of U.S. President Donald Trump, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint seven-point declaration and initialled an Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations.
In addition, Azerbaijan and the United States signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Strategic Working Group tasked with preparing a Charter of Strategic Partnership between the two countries. President Trump also signed a document suspending the implementation of Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act.
