Azerbaijani presidential elections held in line with democratic standards GUAM Parliamentary Assembly says
Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the GUAM member states said at a press conference that they had observed the elections in Baku and Sumgayit.
They noted that the elections were held in a fully democratic atmosphere and highly appreciated the work of the CEC, Caliber.Az reports.
"Voters had free choice, detailed information and the opportunity to fully exercise their rights. Voting was conducted transparently, in full compliance with the law, in a fair atmosphere," the GUAM PA representatives said, noting the high level of voter activity at the polls.
The extraordinary presidential election in Azerbaijan has been organised at the highest level, representative of the GUAM observation mission, Georgian MP David Matikashvili has said.
According to the MP, Azerbaijan's CEC has done everything to ensure fair elections.
GUAM Secretary General Altay Efendiyev, speaking at a press conference on the results of observing the elections in Azerbaijan, said that a high turnout was observed at all polling stations visited today by representatives of the GUAM Mission.
"All polling stations we visited had high turnout. The elections were held on a competitive basis and can be considered to be free and fair," said Efendiyev.
The GUAM Secretary-General noted that all necessary conditions for the functioning of the electoral process had been created at the polling stations.
"In general, the observation group did not register any violations or complaints," he added.
