Azerbaijani taekwondo athletes shine with over 100 medals in 2024 global competitions
Azerbaijani taekwondo athletes have made their mark on the international stage, earning a remarkable total of 104 medals in 2024, according to the Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation.
The medals include an impressive haul of 27 gold, 25 silver, and 52 bronze, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
A highlight of the year was Gashim Magomedov’s silver medal in the 58 kg category at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. This achievement further solidifies Azerbaijan's position in the global taekwondo community.
In Para taekwondo, Azerbaijani athletes achieved groundbreaking results. Imamaddin Khalilov (70 kg, K-44) and Sabir Zeynalov (58 kg, K-44) brought home the first-ever medals in this discipline for Azerbaijan at the Paralympic Games.
Khalilov, a seasoned European and world champion, made history by winning the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris, marking a significant milestone for Azerbaijani Para sports. Zeynalov also delivered a stellar performance, securing a bronze medal in his category.
Additionally, in late September, at the Albania Open tournament held in Tirana, Azerbaijani junior taekwondo athletes achieved significant success, bringing home a total of 14 medals, including 5 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze.
