Azerbaijani, Turkish foreign ministers discuss Gaza ceasefire agreement
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, held a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, on October 11 to discuss recent developments in the Middle East, particularly the situation in Gaza.
According to an official readout by the ministry, the two ministers exchanged views on issues stemming from the ceasefire agreement concerning Gaza. Minister Bayramov praised Türkiye’s successful mediation efforts in facilitating the agreement, Caliber.Az reports.
The ministers also reviewed bilateral ties and shared perspectives on broader regional matters of mutual interest.
The phone call came in the wake of a landmark deal approved on the night of October 10.
Under the agreement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will withdraw to newly designated lines within Gaza, after which Hamas will have 72 hours to release all hostages—both alive and deceased. In exchange for the remaining 48 captives, of whom around 20 are believed to still be alive, Israel is expected to release nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
The agreement marks the initial phase of a US-brokered peace initiative, led by President Donald Trump, to end the war in Gaza. Trump confirmed on October 9 that both Israeli and Hamas officials had agreed to implement the first stage of the proposed plan.
