Azerbaijanis in Moldova call on world community to condemn Armenian actions
The Azerbaijani community in Moldova has strongly condemned the torture of captured Azerbaijani servicemen and the burning of the Azerbaijani flag at the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championship in Yerevan.
The statements addressed to the UN and OSCE representations in Chisinau and other international organizations on behalf of the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Moldova, explains the reason why Azerbaijani army soldiers Babirov Agshin Gabil oglu, born in 2004 and Huseyn Ahliman oglu, born in 2003 ended up in Armenian captivity, Caliber.Az reports, citing State Committee for Work with the Diaspora.
Just one day after the torture of the Azerbaijani soldiers in Armenia another act of vandalism took place - the flag of Azerbaijan was set on fire.
The statement stressed that the burning of the Azerbaijani flag at the opening ceremony, which was attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, made it impossible for Azerbaijani athletes to participate in the competition from a security viewpoint.
Recalling that Armenia is not fulfilling its commitments, the Congress of Azerbaijanis of Moldova demanded that the relevant international organizations investigate these facts and give them a proper legal assessment. Community members also demanded the release of the Azerbaijani servicemen and the imposition of sanctions against Armenia by the European Weightlifting Federation.
Azerbaijanis in Moldova have called on the international sports community to strongly condemn these actions, which constitute a gross violation of the accepted rules of behaviour at sports competitions.
