Azerbaijan's Jabrayil welcomes back over 100 citizens PHOTO
The return of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) to Azerbaijan’s newly reconstructed city of Jabrayil in Karabakh has commenced in line with President Ilham Aliyev's directive.
As part of the "Great Return" program, the very first group of returning citizens departed from the Garadagh district of Baku on September 26, Caliber.Az reports.
In this initial phase, 36 families, comprising 117 individuals, are making their way back to Jabrayil.
The resettlement marks a significant step in the broader effort to rehabilitate and repopulate the liberated territories in Karabakh.
The "Great Return" program aims to facilitate the resettlement and reconstruction of areas affected by conflict. As part of the program, three urban centers, five settlements, and 24 villages are planned for development in Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan districts. The first phase of the program, spanning from 2022 to 2026, is expected to enable more than 41,000 former internally displaced persons (IDPs) to return to their ancestral lands.
