Canada extends duty-free import status for Ukrainian goods until 2026
Canada has announced it will extend the duty-free import status for Ukrainian goods for an additional year, reinforcing its ongoing support for Ukraine’s economy amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The announcement was made by Canada’s Minister of Finance and National Revenue, François-Philippe Champagne, following a unanimous reaffirmation of support for Ukraine by G7 finance ministers and central bank governors last month, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Canadian government's website.
“Building on this strong international consensus, Canada will continue the duty exemption on Ukrainian goods until June 9, 2026,” the government statement said.
Canada emphasised its unwavering commitment to Ukraine, which continues to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and democracy against Russian aggression backed by Belarus. The conflict has severely impacted Ukraine’s economy and its ability to export products globally.
Since the duty exemption order was first implemented on June 9, 2022, Canada has imported more than $35 million worth of goods from Ukraine, collecting $8.5 million in customs payments. The government expects to collect around $1.2 million in customs duties between June 10, 2025, and June 9, 2026.
“Canada remains committed to a just and lasting peace in Ukraine by providing military, financial, and humanitarian assistance,” Champagne said.
This announcement reaffirms Canada's support by helping sustain Ukraine’s economy and underscores Canada’s determination to stand with Ukraine "for as long as necessary," he added.
