Caucasus top religious leader raps Armenian Church for impeding regional peace
"The politicization of the activities of the Armenian Church prevents the signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia."
Chairman of the Board of Muslims of the Caucasus (BMC) Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazada told the August 24 meeting with visiting Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib, Report says.
The chairman of the BMC underscored that the religious figures, who are responsible to the Almighty, should make efforts to prevent the abuse of religion for political purposes.
“In the name of peace, tranquility and progress throughout the world and in the region, the task of the clergy is to support political processes in the name of peaceful coexistence of peoples,” he said.
The leaders and representatives of religious denominations operating in Azerbaijan also informed the guest about the prevailing atmosphere of interreligious understanding and cooperation in the country, using examples they brought to the attention of the Belgian foreign minister that religious communities carry out their worship in conditions of multicultural harmony and are surrounded by the attention and care of the state.
