Chief of Staff: Iran's attack on Israel targeted three major Israeli bases
The attack on October 1, termed Operation True Promise II, targeted three primary Israeli military bases and was described as a reaction to the recent assassinations of key figures, including Hezbollah's leader and a prominent Iranian commander, said Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff.
Bagheri noted that Iran had previously exercised restraint in light of Israel's aggression, particularly after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the former chief of Hamas' Political Bureau, on July 31 in Tehran, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.
“After martyr Haniyeh’s assassination, Iran went through a tough period of self-restraint amid repeated requests by the Americans and Europeans, who would ask us to exercise self-restraint so they would establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip (where the Israeli regime has been waging a genocidal war),” Bagheri noted.
The situation escalated following the deaths of Hassan Nasrallah and Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan during intense Israeli airstrikes in Beirut. In response, Iran launched hundreds of missiles at Israeli military and intelligence bases across the occupied Palestinian territories, resulting in visible explosions in Tel Aviv and al-Quds.
Baqeri outlined that the operation targeted critical installations, including the headquarters of the Mossad spy agency, the Negev airbase housing F-35 aircraft, and the Hatzerim base linked to Nasrallah’s assassination.
He highlighted that the Iranian Armed Forces are fully prepared to retaliate against any further aggression from Israel, stating,
“If the Zionist regime... sought to either continue its atrocities or take action against our territorial integrity and sovereignty, tonight’s operation would be repeated with multiple magnitude and all of their infrastructures would be struck.”
The General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces echoed this sentiment in a statement, asserting that the operation was a direct consequence of Israel’s disregard for Iran’s sovereign rights.
They warned that any retaliatory actions from Israel could lead to widespread destruction of its infrastructure, cautioning the regime’s supporters, particularly the US, against any direct intervention that could provoke a “powerful and regret-inducing response.”
