China opposes external interference in Iran's internal affairs
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian has said it opposes any external interference in Iran as the country faces economic protests.
“China hopes the Iranian government and people can overcome current difficulties to maintain national stability,” Lin Jian told reporters in Beijing, Caliber.Az reports, citing Anadolu Agency.
He added that Beijing “stands firmly against external interference in the internal affairs of Iran.”
“We call on all parties to do more things for peace and stability in the Middle East,” Lin said, stressing that China will work to “uphold the UN Charter and international fairness and justice.”
Lin added that “China upholds the foreign policy of partnership and not alliance,” referring to Iran and China’s 25-year Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement signed in 2021.
Mass demonstrations in Iran following a sharp collapse of the national currency, the rial, have been ongoing since December 28, 2025, and continue on January 6 in at least 88 cities across 27 of Iran’s 31 provinces.
According to Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRAI) and its media project HRANA, at least 35 people have been killed over nine days of protests, while more than 1,200 participants have been arrested. Among the dead are 29 protesters, four children, and two members of the security forces, rights activists say.
