China responds to Trump’s remarks on BRICS, pledges continued cooperation
In response to recent statements by US President Donald Trump regarding the “death” of the BRICS association due to his plans to impose increased tariffs on its member states, China has reaffirmed its commitment to the group and its mission.
During a briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized his country’s intention to deepen cooperation with its BRICS partners, highlighting the group's crucial role in fostering global economic stability, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"China is ready to continue interacting with BRICS partners, intensifying practical cooperation across all sectors, and making a greater contribution to the sustainable and stable growth of the world economy," he said.
Guo Jiakun also underscored the significance of BRICS as an essential platform for collaboration between emerging markets and developing countries. He explained that the group advocates for openness, inclusivity, and win-win cooperation, avoiding confrontation or targeting any specific nation, and aiming for common development and prosperity.
Addressing the issue of US tariffs, the Chinese diplomat reiterated China's stance, stating, "There are no winners in trade and tariff wars, and they ultimately harm the interests of people in all countries."
His comments reflect China’s long-standing position against protectionist trade practices, emphasizing the detrimental effects such measures can have on global cooperation and economic growth.
Last week, US President Donald Trump declared that BRICS was created for a bad purpose and most people don't want it. He said that BRICS is dead and reiterated his threat to BRICS nations, saying he would impose a 100 per cent tariff on the bloc if they try to replace the US dollar with any other currency.
While addressing a press briefing, he said that the US will not trade with BRICS nations if they want to "play games" and even if any trading is done, it will be conducted at a 100 per cent tariff.
