Crisis in Aegean Sea: Does someone need another war? VIDEO
The Aegean Sea has rarely been calm in the last half century if we take as a starting point the events in and around Cyprus more than 50 years ago. Tensions in Greek-Turkish relations, which are very often a reflection of both internal political processes in both countries and the result of direct and indirect influence of behind-the-scenes actors, from time to time resulted in direct clashes, albeit short-term, albeit demonstrative rather than operational. A good example is the crisis around Kardak Island in 1995.
However, recent statistics speak for themselves. According to Turkish sources, from the beginning of this year to September 4, the Greek Air Force violated Turkish airspace 256 times. In addition, 158 times the Greek Air Force took actions of an openly hostile nature against Turkish aircraft.
And although both sides can be considered accustomed to various kinds of muscle games, mainly at sea and in the air, nevertheless, the recent incidents that have taken place since August 23 can be considered egregious.
