Deadly Kyiv postal explosion: man arrested over mailed ammunition case PHOTO
Authorities have identified the cause of the explosion at a postal sorting centre in Kyiv, Ukraine, with prosecutors saying the blast resulted from a man who mailed ammunition to an acquaintance.
According to the Kyiv prosecutor’s office, a 35-year-old man has been detained in connection with the explosion at the sorting facility. Investigators allege that he sent ammunition intended for drone deployment to an acquaintance in Kyiv via postal services.
The suspect has been charged with the illegal acquisition and transfer of ammunition without the permits required by law. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison.
As a result of the findings, the case, which was initially investigated as a terrorist attack, has been reclassified as illegal handling of ammunition.
