Death toll associated with Iranian protests continues to climb up
Ever since mass protests broke out in Iran in September 2022, 516 people have been reported killed, with as many as 19,204 activists having been arrested so far.
These figures have been published by the US-based organization "Human Rights Defenders in Iran", according to Report.
The preliminary reports say 70 of the dead were under the age of 18 while the whereabouts of 4,566 detainees are unknown.
Reportedly, 67 representatives of security agencies were killed during the demonstrations, which spread to more than 160 cities in the country.
At the same time, the Iranian Supreme Court continues to hand out death sentences against protesters, with the latest one against detained Mohammad Boroughani, Lenta.ru reports, quoting Tasnim agency.
The verdict states that he intentionally stabbed and wounded a member of the security forces with a cold weapon. The accused also set fire to the Pakdasht city prefecture building in southeastern Tehran province.
The report said Boroughani "created a climate of fear and insecurity for citizens" through his actions.
According to local media, an Iranian court had earlier sentenced to death at least six rioters.
