Deputy minister: Azerbaijan amplifies efforts against climate change
In a world increasingly affected by climate change, Azerbaijan is stepping up its efforts to address these pressing challenges.
Deputy Economy Minister Sahib Alakbarov emphasized this point during the international conference titled "Climate Change and Just Transition: Role and Activity of Trade Unions," organized by the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Alakbarov remarked that the quest for solutions to the emerging challenges posed by climate change has been ongoing for several years. He stated, “Azerbaijan is one of the first countries committed to contributing to the fight against climate change. We have established specific commitments in this direction and are actively working to implement them.”
At the same conference, Mikhail Pushkin, the director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, highlighted the delays in implementing agreements under the Paris Climate Agreement. He emphasized the necessity of a collaborative approach, stating, “No country can tackle these issues alone; we must confront climate change together.”
Azerbaijan is entering a new phase in water resources management, as highlighted by the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Azerbaijan, Poulin Eizema, at the Caspian Water Innovation Forum. She praised Azerbaijan for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage but acknowledged the serious issues the country faces in managing its water resources.
“Like many nations, Azerbaijan is confronted with significant challenges in this area. The Netherlands has a long history of managing water resources and has learned valuable lessons along the way,” Eizema noted. She further added that Dutch companies are participating in the forum, offering innovative solutions in water management and expressing their readiness to share expertise with Azerbaijan.
