ANAMA clears over 1,000 mines in Azerbaijan's Gazakh district
Azerbaijan's National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has cleared more than 1,000 mines from the liberated areas of the Gazakh district as demining operations continue to secure the country's western border and prepare former conflict zones for safe use.
Speaking at a briefing marking ANAMA's 28th anniversary, the agency's Chairman of the Board, Vugar Suleymanov, said demining efforts remain underway in several liberated villages of the Gazakh district, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
"Since April 2024, demining operations have been carried out in the liberated territories of the Gazakh district to ensure the protection of the state border. In 2025, under the plan approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan, work began to clear residential areas of mines and other explosive remnants of war," Suleymanov said.
According to the ANAMA chief, demining teams have so far cleared 357.4 hectares of land across the liberated territories.
During the operations, specialists detected and neutralized 1,154 anti-personnel mines, 146 anti-tank mines, and 62 other items of unexploded ordnance, significantly reducing the threat posed by explosive hazards in the area.
