Economy chief: Europe strongly backs reopening of Armenia’s regional borders
Armenia’s Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan stated that Armenia has become significantly more appealing to the international community following the establishment of peace between Yerevan and Baku.
As reported by Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, Papoyan made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Germany, where he is accompanying Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan as part of an official delegation.
According to the minister, Armenia’s growing relevance stems primarily from the economic opportunities that have emerged. “Armenia has become interesting to the world, first and foremost, because of the economic opportunities that exist today. At present, the only route that actually connects the Asian region with Europe is the Middle Corridor, which passes through the territories of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia,” he said.
Papoyan added that European partners are now increasingly focused on ensuring that this route extends through Türkiye on its way to Europe. “Meetings with businessmen in Berlin and Hamburg showed that everyone is interested in the opening of Armenia’s borders with Türkiye and Azerbaijan,” he noted, stressing that Western countries are waiting for these transport arteries to be unblocked.
As part of the prime minister’s delegation, Gevorg Papoyan took part in discussions with German business representatives in both Berlin and Hamburg.
