Erdoğan, Dbeibah discuss ties as Türkiye commits to Libya’s security
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told Libya’s Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah that Ankara will continue meeting its commitments to support Libya’s security and stability as the two leaders discussed bilateral ties and regional developments.
During the phone call, President Erdoğan emphasised that Türkiye is closely monitoring developments in Libya, Caliber.Az reports, citing Türkiye’s Presidential Communications Directorate.
Erdoğan highlighted the importance of cooperation between Türkiye and Libya, particularly in the energy sector, stressing that partnership in this area is of great significance for both countries.
He also stated that joint efforts aimed at protecting the rights and interests of Türkiye and Libya in the Eastern Mediterranean would continue in a spirit of solidarity and mutual understanding.
These remarks come amid ongoing strategic cooperation between Türkiye and Libya, reflecting a relationship that has deepened significantly in recent years.
Türkiye and Libya signed a maritime-boundary and security cooperation memorandum in 2019, which paved the way for Turkey’s military intervention in support of the Tripoli-based government during the 2019–2020 phase of the Libyan civil war.
Since then, Ankara has broadened its engagement to include energy cooperation, contractor agreements and large-scale reconstruction projects, with Turkish firms securing new investments across Tripoli and Benghazi.
