Erdogan: Türkiye’s oil field discovery reveals reasons for PKK’s arming
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that a major oil field discovered in the Cudi and Gabar mountains in the province of Sirnak reveals why Ankara's opponents are arming the PKK terrorists and the Syrian branch of the bloody organisation, as well as attempts to form a terrorist-controlled zone near Türkiye's border.
The statement appears in a publication about the discovery of a major oil field in the country's southeast, Anadolu reports.
The Turkish leader explained that it was the largest oil field discovered on Turkish territory during the period of the Republic.
"Mountainous areas, which were once mentioned in the context of terrorist activities, are now a source of positive news," Erdogan's publication said.
The politician noted that Türkiye is located in a strategically important region where some of the world's largest oil reserves are concentrated.
The politician noted that Türkiye is located in a strategically important region where some of the world's largest oil reserves are concentrated. However, our country has not taken full advantage of its natural reserves for a long time," Erdogan said, pointing out that Türkiye was trying to be left out of the "energy race".
Erdogan said that certain circles, through terrorists, political destabilisation and large multinational companies, have long tried to prevent the development of fields in southeastern Anatolia. This is also the reason for the pressure on Turkish defence companies, which, among other things, produce UAVs that enable them to fight terrorists effectively, the politician said.
