Erdoğan urges direct talks between Russia, Ukraine to resolve conflict

15 May 2025 19:39

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, describing them as essential at this stage of the war.

During talks in Ankara with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Erdoğan said that direct dialogue between the two sides was now critical to resolving the conflict and avoiding further loss of life, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

According to a statement from the Turkish presidency, Erdoğan stressed that “the current phase of the war between Ukraine and Russia requires a solution through direct negotiations,” and underlined the importance of reaching an agreement on “minimum common ground” to prevent further human suffering.

He also described the present moment as a “historic opportunity” to launch talks and said he firmly supported efforts to negotiate both at a technical level and between senior leadership.
