EU Commission to continue efforts to seize Russian assets
The European Commission has confirmed it will continue efforts to seize Russian assets, regardless of recent US proposals aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking at a press briefing in Brussels, Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho said the work on frozen Russian assets would remain a priority, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“Yes, I can confirm that our intensive work on Russia’s frozen assets will continue,” she stated in response to a question on whether the Commission would press ahead despite US peace initiatives.
Commenting on the situation regarding proposals from the US, Pinho cited a statement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who is in Johannesburg for the G20 summit opening on November 22.
The Commission chief pledged to hold urgent consultations with EU leaders on the American proposals and insisted that any plan for settling the conflict in Ukraine must be approved by the European Union.
The head of the EU diplomatic service, Kaja Kallas, said at a press conference in Brussels on 20 November following the meeting of EU foreign ministers that the EU has “its own two-point plan”: to weaken Russia and support Ukraine.
