Expert: Armenia can't buy weapons from Iran as it gets assistance from US
Armenian military expert Mher Hakobyan has said that buying weapons from Iran is impossible if we are getting assistance from the US.
"Can Armenia purchase weapons from Iran? This is a complicated question. Firstly, Iran must be willing to sell something. Currently, Iran's arsenal is very old. Iran's air force is in very poor condition. It is also clear from Iranian publications how old their helicopters are. They are obsolete in every respect," Armenian military expert Mher Hakobyan said during his interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
"They are leaders in ballistic missiles and anti-aircraft systems, but that is hardly enough for them. Russia also exports very few weapons. There's a political problem as well: you can't buy half the weapons from one side of the world and the other half from a completely different side. That would set a very bad precedent. If we get help from France and the US, it is impossible to buy weapons from Iran.
As for Western assistance or its imitation, judging from open sources, it would be wrong to say that their support is absent. It is there, but there are many shortcomings: insufficient weapons, poor distribution of funds, problems with army reforms and management, and so on. I don't want to criticise our military too much, but it's been more than three years since the last war, and what have they done?
“We don't see an open-source answer. We're hearing about the TV series again. You understand they show shooting from static positions, while in reality, modern combat takes place in urban environments that require special training. When we see how Ukraine and Israel fight, it becomes obvious how little we have done to modernise our country in this respect," the expert said.
