Fire erupts on tanker in Sea of Marmara near Türkiye’s Istanbul rescue teams respond
A fire has broken out on a tanker in the Gulf of Izmit, located in the Sea of Marmara near Türkiye’s Istanbul, prompting the dispatch of rescue and firefighting vessels to the scene.
The vessels are actively working to control and extinguish the blaze, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The fire is believed to have originated in the engine room of the tanker, which had anchored at the time. Fortunately, no fuel has leaked into the sea, and there have been no reports of casualties as of yet.
Rescuers later reported that the fire has been contained, and efforts are now focused on cooling down the vessel. The tanker, which was transporting around 40,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG), was operating under the flag of Singapore.
