FM: Iran ready to resume oil exports to India
Iran has expressed readiness to resume oil exports to India, with the final decision resting on New Delhi, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during a press conference in the Indian capital.
Speaking in New Delhi, Araghchi noted that India had previously been a major buyer of Iranian crude, but purchases were suspended after the United States imposed what he described as illegal unilateral sanctions.
“India, in the past, purchased Iranian oil. Purchases were halted by India after the United States imposed illegal unilateral sanctions. We are obviously interested in continuing the oil trade and are ready to sell it to India, but we understand their position and understand the consequences of U.S. sanctions,” he said.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed that Tehran faces no obstacles to restoring energy trade and indicated that exports could resume quickly if sanctions are lifted. He added that bilateral trade between the two countries had previously exceeded $20 billion but has since dropped significantly due to the restrictions.
