FM: Russia revising its nuclear doctrine
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has announced that Russia is currently revising its nuclear doctrine.
The minister made these comments during a press conference following talks with Yemen's Foreign Minister, Shayea Mohsen Al-Zindani, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Lavrov emphasised the importance of understanding that Russia has its own doctrine, including a nuclear weapons doctrine, which is presently being renewed. He noted that this doctrine is well known to US officials.
The minister highlighted American perspectives on potential global conflict, noting that US officials believe Europe would bear the brunt if a new world war were to start.
He specifically referenced statements from John Kirby, the White House Coordinator for Strategic Communications, which he believes reflect the mindset of American strategists who feel secure behind their own borders.
"This is a telling moment that reveals the mentality of American planners and geostrategists who are convinced they can remain insulated from the consequences," Lavrov commented. "It’s a Freudian slip: they express concern about a third world war not because of the potential global impact but because they don’t want Europe to suffer. This illustrates the American mentality of viewing themselves as safe while expecting others—whether Ukrainians or Europeans—to bear the brunt of the conflict."
Lavrov's remarks came in the context of discussions on Russia's evolving nuclear doctrine.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov indicated that further specifics might be added to Russia's nuclear policy if tensions with Moscow's opponents escalate.
