Fuzuli mosque symbolises unity of Turkic world, Turkmen envoy says
The ceremony to lay the foundation stone of the mosque in the city of Fuzuli is significant historical moment for the entire Turkic world, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Gurbanmammad Elyasov said.
Speaking to media at a briefing dedicated to the foundation of the mosque, Elyasov emphasised that the event – which took place in the presence of the leaders of all member states of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) – symbolised the unity and brotherhood among Turkic nations. He also noted its broader importance for the Islamic world, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
The ambassador stated that the construction of the mosque in Fuzuli, a city liberated during the 2020 Karabakh war, serves as a powerful symbol that Karabakh is an inseparable part of Azerbaijan.
He also recalled that the idea to hold a foundation ceremony was agreed upon on August 22, during a trilateral meeting in Ashgabat between Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. At that meeting, Turkmenistan's National Leader and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the mosque project and decided to hold the ceremony during the 12th summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organisation of Turkic States.
