Georgia files drug crime charges against 1,870 people in 2026
Since the beginning of the year, Georgian prosecutors have filed drug-related charges against 1,870 individuals, according to data from the National Statistics Office.
In January, 756 people faced drug crime charges, rising to 1,114 in February, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Of the total, 1,036 are accused of illegal possession and acquisition of narcotics, while 77 are charged with drug trafficking.
Combating drug crimes remains a key priority for Georgian law enforcement. The country imposes some of the strictest penalties for drug offenses.
Trafficking and aiding drug distribution can carry a life sentence, while prison terms for other drug crimes range from 8 to 20 years. Courts may also order mandatory drug rehabilitation as an additional measure for convicted offenders.
