Georgian Deputy Speaker calls Polish FM’s remarks “shameless”
Georgian First Deputy Speaker Giorgi Volski has condemned remarks made by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, calling them “shameless.”
Sikorski had accused Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party of following “anti-European trends” and described the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections as “suspicious,” Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
“There is nothing anti-European in Georgia. By European standards, we are ahead of Poland in many areas—for example, in fighting corruption, ensuring judicial fairness, and government transparency,” Volski said.
According to Volski, the Polish minister’s remarks reflect the stance of “certain circles” within the European Union who seek to change Georgia’s leadership and turn the country into a “battleground against the new U.S. administration.”
To recall, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has accused Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream, of setting an “anti-European trend” in the country. Speaking at a session of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, he stressed that the EU expects a reversal of this trajectory.
Sikorski also questioned the legitimacy of the party’s rise to power, suggesting that Bidzina Ivanishvili’s party won parliamentary elections under “dubious standards.”
Discussing Poland’s priorities during its upcoming EU Council presidency, Sikorski highlighted the importance of EU enlargement amid geopolitical shifts. He reaffirmed support for the Georgian people’s pro-European aspirations.
