Georgian opposition set to reject legitimacy of upcoming parliamentary polls
The Georgian opposition is preparing to denounce the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26, 2024, as illegitimate.
In an interview with Georgian media, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili indicated that the opposition's plans to challenge the elections are already underway, Caliber.Az reports.
"We can already see that they (the opposition) are preparing to declare these elections traditionally illegitimate," Papuashvili said. "But as before, they will have to face the truth."
Papuashvili pointed out that the opposition has previously declared elections as illegitimate without achieving significant changes.
The upcoming elections are pivotal for Georgia, as the ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party seeks to maintain its hold on power.
This party has governed since 2012, succeeding the United National Movement, in Georgia's parliamentary republic system.
