Georgian parliament speaker says EU faces "civilisational abyss"
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has issued a stark warning about the future of the European Union, suggesting that it is on the brink of a "civilisational abyss" due to escalating tensions and military rhetoric within the bloc.
Papuashvili pointed to recent comments from the US administration, which has accused Europe of transforming into a "potential conflict zone." He argued that the EU's actions, particularly its "funding of conflicts" in regions like Georgia, have contributed to rising instability, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
According to Papuashvili, the EU has shifted away from its founding principles of peace and diplomacy, now positioning itself as a central actor in military escalation.
The Georgian speaker expressed concern that military rhetoric has become increasingly commonplace within EU leadership circles. He noted that some EU leaders are openly discussing the possibility of a war with Russia in the near future.
