Georgian speaker urges European leaders to "come to their senses"
The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has urged European leaders to "come to their senses," warning that continued detachment from the will of their citizens could ultimately undermine European identity.
Speaking to reporters on December 12, Papuashvili said that European politicians had drifted away from the interests of their peoples, Caliber.Az reports per Georgian media.
“I believe this is the moment when European leaders need to come to their senses. They have moved away from themselves and from the will of European citizens. The only solution is to return to serving the people, from whom they are now so distant,” he stated.
He added that the new US administration has taken on a role of openly addressing what it perceives as failures among European bureaucrats and political leaders.
“The administration has made clear the consequences: the loss of European identity, the ultimate outcome of current European leadership – the complete destruction of Europe’s identity,” Papuashvili said.
The parliament speaker also highlighted the successes of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party in recent years.
“All risks have become evident, and all hypocrites have been exposed. Where would we be today if we had not endured this pressure? We would be like Ukraine now – with neither peace nor the ability to wage war – placed in such a situation by hypocritical political leaders,” he added.
