Iğdır governor stresses strengthening Azerbaijan-Türkiye ties with key pipeline project
Iğdır Governor Ercan Turan emphasized the growing importance of developing bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, highlighting key projects like the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline as prime examples of this collaboration.
Turan made these remarks during a meeting with Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations of Azerbaijan, who is currently visiting Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Governor Turan stressed that Azerbaijan and Türkiye are working together to elevate their relations to the highest level across various sectors.
Mammadov acknowledged the progress, stating, "Azerbaijani-Turkish relations have reached the highest level today." He further emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two nations in strengthening mutual ties.
A key topic of the meeting was the well-being of the Azerbaijani community living in Iğdır, with both sides noting the attention and care extended to them.
A significant milestone in this collaboration was the official opening of the Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline on March 5, which took place via a video link, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in attendance.
The Iğdır-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, which has a current capacity of 730 million cubic meters, was designed to address the growing energy needs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Region. This infrastructure project, spanning 85 kilometres, will provide natural gas from Azerbaijan's energy fields, specifically the Shah Deniz field, to Nakhchivan. Previously, Nakhchivan relied on gas supplies from Iran, and this pipeline will now supply up to 500 million cubic meters of natural gas annually, ensuring reliable energy access.
The Iğdır-Nakhchivan pipeline is seen as a key development in strengthening energy cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, ensuring the long-term energy needs of both regions are met.
