Azerbaijan's network of energy pipelines serves as critical "arteries" connecting Caspian gas supplies to Europe, a senior executive at the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has said, highlighting the country's growing role in European energy security.

Speaking to Euronews' Business Horizons programme, SOCAR Deputy Vice President Vitaliy Baylarbayov said transit routes, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and South Caucasus pipelines, are essential links connecting Azerbaijan with international markets.

The comments come after Azerbaijan increased its natural gas exports to the European Union by 56% since 2021, according to Euronews.

Gas is delivered through the 3,500-kilometre Southern Gas Corridor, a pipeline network operated by SOCAR. In 2025, Italy remained the largest European importer of Azerbaijani gas, purchasing 9.5 billion cubic metres, equivalent to 16% of its total gas imports.

SOCAR Operations Director Elkhan Sultanov said maintaining uninterrupted deliveries requires continuous monitoring along the entire Southern Gas Corridor.

"In our industry, precision is essential," Sultanov said, adding that constant oversight of the 3,500-kilometre network helps ensure safe and reliable gas supplies to Europe.
