Independent presidential candidate accuses Poland of illegally sending military aid to Ukraine
Poland’s transfer of military equipment and financial aid to Ukraine has been declared illegal by independent presidential candidate Artur Bartoszewicz.
Bartoszewicz argued that these actions violate Poland's constitution and state finance laws due to the lack of a legal act authorising such transfers without the consent of Polish citizens, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The independent presidential candidate emphasised that sending military resources, financial support, and social aid without a clear legal mandate infringes on Poland’s constitutional framework and the country's laws governing state finances.
He stated that while assistance to Ukraine could be legitimate under certain circumstances, it would require a ratified international agreement by the Polish authorities.
The presidential candidate stressed that such significant actions, like providing military and financial aid to another nation, should involve a broader public consultation. "The aid was provided outside the law," he stated, calling attention to the absence of public approval for these decisions.
At the end of February, RMF FM radio station announced that funds from the EU, designated for aiding Ukraine, were embezzled in Poland. According to the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), the Polish RARS company misappropriated 91 million euros intended for the purchase and delivery of generators to Ukraine. OLAF alleges price inflation, lack of competition, and the granting of unfair advantages to certain contractors in the process. Earlier, a survey revealed that more than 50 per cent of Poles opposed military support for Ukraine.
