Initial Baku-Yerevan peace deal set to strengthen regional freight transport
The agreement between Baku and Yerevan reached in Washington on August 8 is expected to strengthen the importance of regional freight transport, said Belgium’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Julien de Freyon, at the Black and Caspian Freight Forum 2025.
According to the ambassador, the EU supports the development of transport corridors in the region, and Belgium, as an EU member, actively contributes to these projects, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He emphasised that Belgium is ready to share its experience in green energy and logistics.
“Thanks to this strategic partnership, the region will be able to significantly enhance its logistics capabilities,” de Freyon added.
On August 8, US President Donald Trump hosted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House for a historic signing ceremony that marked a breakthrough in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process. The agreement, described as a joint declaration, outlined steps toward normalising relations between the two nations. A central element of the deal is the establishment of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), also called the Zangezur corridor, a 43-kilometre transit corridor through Armenia’s Syunik province, connecting mainland Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave, which borders Türkiye and Iran.
