Iran challenges Russian position on Zangezur Corridor in diplomatic meeting
Iran has opposed the route (Zangezur Corridor - Ed.) that would connect the main part of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through the territory of Armenia.
In this connection, the Russian Ambassador to Tehran met with Mojtaba Demirchiloo, the Iranian foreign minister's assistant and director general of the Foreign Ministry's Eurasia department, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The information was released by Iran's Foreign Ministry. During the meeting, Demirchiloo and the Russian Ambassador discussed issues related to respecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and mutual interests of countries that are guarantors of sustainable peace and regional stability.
Demirchiloo emphasized that Iran supports the restoration of peace and stability in the region, the development of cooperation among regional countries, and opposition to changes in the internationally recognized borders of the region.
The discussions included exchanges of views on the processes in the Caucasus, supporting peace and stability among regional countries, promoting cooperation, and combating changes to internationally recognized borders.
Both sides also underscored the importance of leveraging regional opportunities to bolster peace and stability and to implement economic plans considering the interests of all parties.
Additionally, upcoming meetings were discussed, including the advisory mechanism “3+3” and the trilateral meeting of foreign ministers from Iran, Russia, and Azerbaijan.
