Tbilisi offers to mediate in peace talks between Baku and Yerevan
Georgia has expressed its readiness to mediate in the ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
At a press conference in Yerevan with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili reaffirmed Georgia's willingness to facilitate peace efforts, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media outlets.
"I would like to note that Georgia wants to be a real facilitator for strengthening peace and stability in the region. And unequivocally, we will express readiness to facilitate the peace process that is going on between our neighbouring countries," Bochorishvili stated.
She further emphasized the importance of a peace treaty that reflects the interests of both Armenia and Azerbaijan, adding that this is the only way to ensure lasting stability in the region.
Earlier, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze confirmed Tbilisi's intent to play the role of moderator in negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the same press conference, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan discussed the unblocking of regional communications and its potential benefits.
"There is nothing new, Armenia's position is known. We support the idea of unblocking communications in the region," Mirzoyan said during the press conference.
He explained that unblocking would bring significant economic benefits to the region while respecting the principles of territorial integrity and the sovereignty of countries over communications passing through their territories. "If and when the unblocking of communications takes place, we see an opportunity to simplify procedures, which can benefit everyone," Mirzoyan added, highlighting the importance of logistical efficiency in the 21st century.
Additionally, during the press conference, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili extended an invitation to her Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, to visit Georgia. Mirzoyan accepted the invitation.
