Iran delivers official note of protest to US over president’s remarks

19 June 2025 09:43

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has delivered a formal note of protest to the United States, condemning recent "provocative and irresponsible" statements made by the US President regarding Iran.

The protest note was handed to Swiss Ambassador Nadine Olivieri Lozano—who represents US interests in Tehran—after she was summoned to the Foreign Ministry by Issa Kameli, Director General of the American and European Affairs Department, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.

The Iranian government described the US President’s comments as an endorsement of Israeli military actions against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The protest note emphasised that such statements violate international law and the UN Charter, and hold the US government responsible for encouraging acts of aggression and terrorism.

During the meeting, Kameli issued a strong warning, stating that the remarks constitute “a clear admission of US complicity” in Israeli “aggression and war crimes.” He added that Iran "will never yield to threats or pressure," and that its people must be treated with "respect and honour."

Ambassador Lozano pledged to immediately convey Iran’s protest to US officials.

Speaking to reporters on June 18, US President Donald Trump issued what he described as an “ultimate ultimatum” to Iranian leaders, demanding they dismantle their nuclear program. Trump remained deliberately vague about whether he plans to order a military strike against Iran, leaving the possibility open but undecided.

“The next week is going to be big,” Trump said, suggesting significant developments could occur soon. He also claimed that Iranian officials have shown a willingness to negotiate, but cautioned that “it’s very late to be talking” after Iran reached out to him. Iran has refuted this claim.

When asked directly if he would strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, Trump responded mockingly, “Will you strike the Iranian nuclear component, and what time exactly, sir?” He added, “You don’t know that I’m going to even do it,” and emphasised, “I may do it, I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I’m going to do.” Trump concluded by warning that “Iran’s got a lot of trouble, and they want to negotiate.”
