Iran protests: Death toll surpasses 7,000 as crackdown enters 46th day

12 February 2026 12:24

At least 7,002 people have died since Iran’s nationwide protests began, including 6,506 protesters, as demonstrations enter their 46th day, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).

Authorities continue a widespread crackdown on demonstrators, students, teachers, and political activists, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.

The unrest has also left over 25,000 civilians injured and nearly 53,000 arrested, including 136 students. Forced confessions were reported in 337 cases, and authorities issued more than 11,000 summonses. HRANA documented 676 protest locations across 210 cities in 31 provinces.

In Shahin Shahr, Isfahan province, at least three detainees were blocked from leaving custody despite bail, with release conditional on attending pro-government rallies on February 11 and providing photographic evidence. Officials warned that refusal could lead to re-arrest.

Teachers have also been targeted, with at least eight arrested across Ahvaz, Karaj, and Lorestan. Student and teacher detentions indicate a deliberate suppression of the education sector. Political figures and reformist activists, including Mohsen Aminzadeh, Azar Mansouri, and Hossein Karroubi, have also been arrested. Labour representatives like Yaser Ahmadinejad have been detained as well.

Iranian media remain under scrutiny. A Hamoon Network presenter accidentally said “Death to Khamenei” on live TV on February 11, prompting dismissals and suspensions. The judiciary has warned that those accused of “rioting” will face severe consequences, with cases proceeding through investigation, trial, and appeal.

The European Parliament addressed “systematic repression, inhumane conditions, and arbitrary detentions” in Iran, calling for the unconditional release of detainees, international observer access to prisons, and accountability for human rights violations.

HRANA’s figures show that 46 days into the protests, Iran faces a deep social and political crisis. Arrests, injuries, and fatalities continue to rise, while the government maintains a hardline crackdown across cities, schools, workplaces, and political circles. The protests, rooted in social and political grievances, show no sign of abating, highlighting mounting international concern.
